We had a terrifyingly great time at the 12th Annual Halloween Festival for DTLA Kids! Over 1,500 ghosts, ghouls, wizards, princesses, and superheroes swarmed Grand Hope Park for a whirlwind evening of Halloween fun!

With a record turn-out under cool and comfortable clouds, our 20th Annual Public Safety Appreciation BBQ fundraiser was a great success. We packed the Bank of America Plaza with our friends and neighbors in law enforcement, serving over 1,200 heaping plates of delicious BBQ and dessert. The firm's founder, Abby Allen brought in Tre Borden / Co, a place-making consultant and producer to create a highly-visible and engaging art piece on the outside of the building.

Our HOLIDAY POP-UP activation at the corner of 7th St. and Olive St. - on the ground floor of the LA Athletic Club - will be a place where visitors can reboot and recharge during the holiday season. There will be art, local merchandise for sale, weekly events, and deals/details on downtown holiday happenings.

Attracted by diverse neighborhoods and a strong, connected community, retail companies are setting up shop in Downtown LA. Retail hubs, like THE BLOC and FIG@7th, have led the way, and global brands and local makers have followed close behind.

As summer turns to autumn and we finally say goodbye to 100-degree days, most are happy to see the heat go. But just in the last 30 days, we've seen the opening of prominent stores that confirm the retail scene in Downtown LA is as hot as ever! Which is exactly what we say in our just-released 2018 Downtown LA Retail Report.

Here are some notable highlights of new retail shops that have opened within the last month.

Arguably the most iconic building in Downtown LA, the US Bank Tower was, until recently, the tallest building in the Western United States, and is still a prominent feature of the skyline. Singapore-based owner, OUE, invested in a range of major capital improvements including a dramatic lobby renovation and the creation of an observation deck (with a see-through slide!) called OUE Skypace LA a full 70 stories above DTLA.

Arguably the most iconic building in Downtown LA, the US Bank Tower was, until recently, the tallest building in the Western United States, and is still a prominent feature of the skyline. When Singapore-based OUE purchased the property in 2013, they immediately set to work on major capital improvements to reimagine it from top-to-bottom.

The original inspiration for Hacking the Highrise, these two iconic Downtown LA towers were transformed into modern, amenity-driven, state-of-the-art workplace that set the tone for Downtown LA. Dramatic interior renovations, a reimagining of a signature plaza, and a complete repositioning of subterranean retail spaces worked together for a striking renewal.

City National Plaza was the original inspiration for Hacking the Highrise. It was Gensler’s Rob Jernigan who coined the phrase when talking about how City National Plaza accommodated their relocation from Santa Monica and embraced Gensler’s radical plan to convert an old corporate bank office into a state-of-the-art creative workplace. Six years later, Gensler and building owner CommonWealth Partners have produced one of the most dramatic and successful transformations of office tower space in Downtown LA.

The Downtown residential market has been on fire for years now, with the retail and restaurant scene smoldering in its wake. Now those sparks are beginning to ignite the commercial office market – with our Q2 Market Report showing growth in leasing activity, average rents and net absorption. But the numbers, while good news, aren't the real story.
