Tramaine’s Seasonal Stroll Through DTLA’s Parks

Wednesday December 3, 2025 | By Maria Elena Hewett

Tramaine, like so many artists and creatives, found both home and inspiration in Downtown. Now two years into living, working, and making music here, DTLA’s parks have become a grounding force— especially during the holidays. “I usually end up traveling a lot this time of year,” Tramaine shared. “So when I’m back during the season, I want to be outside. The parks always have something spectacular going on.”

Meet-Cute at the Blue Ribbon Garden

First on the list is a favorite among the 9-to-5ish crowd: Blue Ribbon Garden, tucked behind Walt Disney Concert Hall. While most people slip away here between meetings for a quiet lunch or meditation break, Tramaine sees it as the backdrop of their own made-for-TV holiday movie. “It’s such a romantic little garden with that gorgeous sculpture. It’s only open during the daytime, which makes it feel even more precious. I imagine meeting someone special there. It's perfect!"

Grand Park in Full Seasonal Glow

Just down the street, Gloria Molina Grand Park transforms into a classic holiday experience. Lights, installations, and special programming turn the already vibrant space into a festive destination. “They do events there all the time, and the park is the perfect setting. I always have a good time,” Tramaine said.

Grand Park’s distinct areas offer a choose-your-own-adventure holiday outing. The historic Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain has a wadable membrane pool for those rogue December heatwaves; the event lawns are decorated for seasonal programming; and then there’s Tramaine’s favorite, the community terrace.

Planted with drought-tolerant landscapes reflecting LA’s bio-diversity, the gardens represent the diverse cultural make-up of Los Angeles itself. As a student of herbalism, Tramaine recommends lingering to read the plant signage and you might just learn more yourself in the process. “Lavender is my favorite scent. I started using it more around the same time I discovered the Lavender Garden here. It was confirmation I was on the right path by living and working in Downtown.”

Pershing Square, But Make It Festive

To round out the tour, Tramaine points to Pershing Square, long known as a DTLA holiday classic.  “They really know how to do it up for the season. Every year I’m excited for the Christmas tree to be installed, and they always have ice skating every year, which you don’t expect to see in the middle of the city center.” The rink is also home to our annual Lunch Break Skate event, a lunchtime tradition for Downtown employees. Tramaine is already planning an ugly-sweater moment for our contest.

A Simple Philosophy for the Season

While many people think of bars or restaurants when planning seasonal gatherings, Tramaine takes a more grounded approach. “I could always recommend spots to eat or drink. But when I really want to feel the holidays in Downtown, I go to the parks. They’re beautiful, accessible, and full of life.” Tramaine’s take is a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful holiday magic is free and waiting just outside your front door (or your office building).
