Event Recap: DTLA 2026 Trends & Outlook Breakfast
The DTLA Alliance’s 2026 Trends & Outlook Breakfast on March 17th at the LA Central Library's Mark Taper Auditorium marked a key moment for DTLA as enthusiastic Downtowners came together to hear about exciting new initiatives to improve the city center, compelling new cultural experiences coming our way, and of course the ever-expanding list of new culinary offerings!
Framed around the theme of “Momentum, Alignment, and Action,” the program emphasized a shift in Downtown’s trajectory following an extended period of challenges, with renewed optimism driven by major investments, increasing community engagement and collaboration, and the parade of global events on the horizon.
The event featured a “fireside chat” with LA City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado and DTLA Alliance President & CEO Suzanne Holley. Their conversation emphasized the importance of addressing public safety, supporting small businesses and residents, and revitalizing the office market to sustain long-term growth.
One central focus of the event was the scale of opportunity presented by upcoming global events, including the FIFA World Cup, the Super Bowl, and the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In response, the DTLA Alliance introduced the “DTLA Welcomes the World” campaign, an invitation to experience downtown through the lens of those who know it best. The campaign combines multilingual digital tools, curated itineraries, and on-the-ground wayfinding with a broader effort to equip local businesses, cultural institutions, and property partners with the tools to actively shape and share DTLA’s story with a global audience. Complementing this effort is the “Path of Progress” initiative, a coordinated strategy to improve public safety and conditions in the public realm along key corridors linking major destinations through enhanced and coordinated services and infrastructure investments.
The program also showcased DTLA’s creative and cultural momentum, highlighted by the soon to be opened dataland museum presented by co-founders Refik Anadol and Efsun Erkılıç, as well as major expansions at The Broad and the Colburn School within the newly formed Grand Avenue Cultural District. These projects reinforce DTLA’s position as a global center for arts & culture while contributing to its broader economic and social vitality.
Insights from the just released 2026 Outlook & Insights Report underscored Downtown’s outsized role in the regional economy, with over 80,000 residents, 323,000 jobs, and more than 17 million annual visitors. Data also revealed strong engagement across dining, arts, and entertainment, alongside continued demand for an urban lifestyle.
With major projects underway and global attention approaching, DTLA stands at a pivotal point with immense potential, and that energy was palpable at the event – as was the passion and commitment that defines the Downtown community. The sold-out crowd was a dynamic mix of DTLA residents and workers, property owners and tenants, civic leaders and local boosters, all of whom believe in Downtown and embody the “momentum, alignment, and action” the event was meant to showcase.
