Reinventing Downtown’s Office Towers for the 21st Century
Hacking the Highrise is a new initiative from the Downtown Center BID exploring how DTLA’s office towers are being reimagined for a new era of city living and a new generation of tenants.
DTLA is attracting a new generation of companies in growth sectors such as technology, design, and media. These creative and entrepreneurial companies are establishing a dynamic innovation scene in DTLA, with a vibrancy that extends to its trend-setting restaurants and culture, and the forward-thinking design of its streetscapes and public spaces. Some of them are setting up shop in updated historic buildings or converted industrial properties, but many are choosing Class A towers for their prime locations, large floorplans, and state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure. And those towers are repositioning themselves to accommodate the evolving needs and alternative workspace style and cultures of their new tenants.
With over $6.5 billion invested in Class A Office Towers since 2013, new owners are maximizing the value and appeal of their buildings by reinventing them from the inside out and wreconnecting them to a revitalized DTLA. From lobbies and plazas redesigned as communal gathering spaces, to radical office renovations for creative tenants, and amenities and programming to enrich the employee experience and integrate with the surrounding neighborhood, DTLA’s office towers are an active testing ground for the workplace of tomorrow in the Downtown of today.
For the rest of this year, we will be focusing on Downtown office towers from the list below – doing a deeper dive on how they are hacking the highrise and what it means for their tenants, surrounding neighborhood, and the future of DTLA. Stay tuned, it’s going to be a good show!
