5 Fab Places in DTLA to Work Out Outdoors
Regular physical activity is an important part of a happy and healthy lifestyle, and it’s more important than ever to prioritize your well-being during these difficult times. While many indoor gyms and fitness studios are currently closed, there are a number of outdoor facilities that are open Downtown with safety measures in place, helping you to achieve your fitness goals. Here are five fab places you can exercise outdoors in DTLA.
1. Gold’s Gym
Gold’s Gym has set up exercise equipment and offers group fitness classes held at safe distances at their Outdoor Playground on the upper level of FIGat7th. Members can enjoy cycling equipment, individual weight training, boxing bags, and classes such as yoga, Zumba, BODYPUMP, and Cardio Latin in the sunshine or beneath custom shade tarps. The Olympic-sized pool is also open for refreshing swim workouts kept safe with one-person-per-lane limits.
2. LA Athletic Club
The LA Athletic Club is a private club currently offering group exercise classes and athletic activities in two outdoor spaces: Hercules Beach, located on the rooftop of the building’s parking garage, and Studio Luna on the rooftop of the Clubhouse, both with stunning Downtown skyline views. Group classes include yoga, Pilates mat, and meditation. Personal training is also available.
3. Orangetheory Fitness
Orangetheory Fitness is a heart rate-based group workout that combines science, coaching, and technology to target your metabolism. Centered around high intensity interval training (HIIT), you rotate through interval stations with a provided heart rate monitor, which shows how your body is responding to the activity. Orangetheory DTLA has set up a distanced outdoor studio so you can get your heart rate safely pumping in the open air.
4. Ketchum-Downtown YMCA
The Ketchum-Downtown YMCA is currently offering outdoor group exercises in the rooftop courtyard. Members can sign up for classes like Sit & Tone, Zumba, Strength-Training, Cardio Dance, Boxing 101, and cycling classes to work up a sweat in the fresh air. The YMCA is also offering personal training sessions and virtual workouts.
5. Hotel Figueroa
Hotel Figueroa is offering wellness and fitness programming on the hotel’s beautiful rooftop patio. Fitness classes like yoga and Pilates are available for hotel guests (complimentary) and locals who are looking for rejuvenating exercise outdoors while soaking in the Downtown skyline view. The hotel is also hosting mindfulness classes, including meditation and sound baths.
And here's a bonus!

Lagree213 makes it easy to squeeze in a workout in an open, airy, outside studio. Their classes offer a challenging, custom workout using Megaformers equipment that combines core, endurance, cardio, balance, strength, and flexibility training.
