The Dog Party of the Year

Thursday July 18, 2019

On Wednesday, July 10th, over 1,300 Downtown LA residents, workers, and their canine friends gathered on the plaza at FIGat7th to celebrate the DCBID's 13th Annual Dog Day and to share an evening of mingling, music, and more. This annual event began at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels as a way to help introduce neighbors, build community and to bring life to our streets.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet with over 25 dog-related vendors, fill up their bags with goodies and treats, and some lucky dogs even found their fur-ever homes through on-site adoptions. The Pizza Studio and New Moon Café were on hand to feed the hungry humans while the dogs enjoyed the various snacks and nibbles. Additionally, the spcaLA helped providing a low-cost vaccine clinic to help hundreds of dogs remain healthy and happy.

Each year at the event, the DCBID honors an individual or organization that has shown exceptional leadership and dedication in the Downtown community. This year's "Top Dog" award recipient was Watts Project. Watts Project was founded in 2015 by Amanda Casarez. Born and raised in Watts, Amanda has been an important part of the community for many years. Her non-profit provides several free pet services like spaying and neutering, to grooming for low income and homeless families. Watts Project is a 100% volunteer organization with volunteers ranging from elementary school children to retirees. Not one person is paid but each give it their all. The DCBID would like to thank our Event Partners Brookfield Properties and FIGat7th, our Title Sponsors DTLA Vets and Pussy & Pooch, our Community Sponsor Grand Park Animal Hospital, and all the vendors that participated.

We're already planning our 14th Annual Dog Day so we can't wait to see you next year!
