The DCBID's Executive Director Nick Griffin hosted a series of roundtable discussions titled DTLA Pop-Up Connect: Kickstarting New Retail Brands at Urban Land Institute Los Angeles's Urban Marketplace 2019 conference. Joined by the DCBID's Marketing and Economic Manager Michael Ashkenasi, the duo fielded questions about retail opportunities in DTLA and directed conversations around the advantages of a Downtown LA presence for emerging brands. Topics included:

  • DTLA and the future of retail
  • Value and viability of Pop-Ups
  • Other uses for vacant retail spaceHow much retail do we need?
  • City policy recommendations

"ULI's Urban Marketplace is a dynamic forum for the interchange of innovative ideas about cities, so it is a perfect place for us to explore the future of retail in DTLA and get feedback on critical issues and key initiatives effecting the Downtown market and community. By providing insight into experiential retail, next-gen storefronts, and the fast-moving balance between real-world retail and online shopping (bricks and clicks), we continue to be a trusted resource in evolving, greater retail markets.

We were honored to be part of this important dialog and to help guide the critical conversations that are of vital importance to the ongoing improvements of Downtown LA." -- Nick Griffin, Executive Director DCBID

The DCBID's Pop-Up Connect and Storefront Billboards programs help DTLA property owners activate and promote their retail space with L.A.'s trendsetters. By connecting up-and-coming brands, retailers, and talented artists to vacant space, we help support business development while beautifying our community.
