Dog Friendly DTLA

Thursday May 22, 2025

Dogs are a part of the DTLA community and there is a rich history behind how our thriving, dog-filled neighborhood became what it is today that you can read more about here. For those of you with furry friends in tow – residents, workers, and visitors alike – we’ve put together a little guide of our favorite dog-friendly things to do in Downtown LA. Interested in learning more and meeting your fellow Downtown dogs and dog-focused businesses? Be sure to come to our 17th annual Dog Day event on June 14th!

Hotel Indigo

Out on the Town

In DTLA, hitting a happy hour or grabbing a great meal doesn’t mean you need to leave your dog at home. Kippered, Slipperclutch, Beelman's, Native Son, Golden Gopher, and Good Clean Fun are all bars that have patio sections that allow for pups to accompany their owners for a cocktail or nice glass of wine. For restaurants, Joyce, Pez Cantina, Redbird, HATCH, Yuko Kitchen, and Lazy Dog are just a few of our dog-friendly favorites. Looking for a staycation or welcoming visitors with pups to DTLA? The Wayfarer, Hotel Per La, Hotel Indigo, and Downtown LA Proper Hotel are all dog-friendly hotels that would love to host you and your fur baby!

Maguire Gardens

Ready, Set, Fetch!

If your dog is looking to go off-leash and let loose, you’ve got several options in Downtown LA. Grand Park includes a fenced dog park that provides a safe and secure environment for dogs to run around. A small, fenced dog park near LA Live at 1005 Chick Hearn Ct has a section for both big and small pups to ensure safe play. There are also several parks in DTLA that are dog friendly but unfenced. LA State Historic is a fantastic option for those looking for wide open space and lots of grass for rolling. Spring St. Park is a small but well-kept park that allows for lots of sniffing, plus a fenced, secure dog run in the back where you will often find groups of neighbors catching up with their pups after work. Pershing Square has plenty of wide-open spaces and lots of little green spots to explore as does Maguire Gardens. The latter will be the site of our Dog Day festival this year! Lastly, Plaza del California on 2nd and Main St. has a wide, grassy area for dogs to play fetch but be careful as it is on a busy street and unfenced - so make sure to have a long lead.

Bone Appetit

Just Food for Dogs is a dog food boutique on Spring St. that sells freshly made, nutritious, and delicious dog food. They pride themselves on gently cooked whole ingredients and human grade nutrition. As an added bonus, they always have little samples for your furry friend when you stop by.

Petco is a tried-and-true source for a reason, with a huge selection of different dog food brands, toys, medicine, and about anything else that you could need for your pup. The DTLA location also offers super convenient curbside pickup.

Grand Park Animal Hospital

Thoroughly Vetted

DTLA Vets is one of the neighborhood’s best veterinary offices, with amazing care for your dog and fantastic customer service. Their staff provides a full range of vet care including the small stuff like nail trims to the big stuff like surgical procedures. They also offer a convenient urgent care option if their regular appointments are booked out, including a late-night urgent care service.

Grand Park Animal Hospital is another great veterinary office in DTLA, with attentive doctors and nurses and a clean, welcoming space. They also have a large range of additional services including dental cleaning, spay & neuter, and regular wellness exams.

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that Downtown LA loves its dogs. So as an ode to the dogs of DTLA and their doting doggie owners, we’ve put together a new and improved Dog Day festival. Join us on Friday, June 13th, from 4–9 PM, for a one-night-only “yappy hour” in the gorgeous Maguire Gardens at the Los Angeles Central Library (630 W. 5th Street). Enjoy an evening of sipping and strolling through the gardens with your furball, featuring specialty drinks from Settecento, over a dozen dog-friendly vendors, photo ops, activities, live music, community dog walks, and so much more.
