Downtown LA has been the city’s commercial center and home to traditional industries like finance and law since the 1920’s. As we enter the 2020’s, Downtown has become LA’s capital of creativity and is emerging as a prime location for innovative industries like media, technology, fashion, and others.

Arguably the most iconic building in Downtown LA, the US Bank Tower was, until recently, the tallest building in the Western United States, and is still a prominent feature of the skyline. Singapore-based owner, OUE, invested in a range of major capital improvements including a dramatic lobby renovation and the creation of an observation deck (with a see-through slide!) called OUE Skypace LA a full 70 stories above DTLA.

The original inspiration for Hacking the Highrise, these two iconic Downtown LA towers were transformed into modern, amenity-driven, state-of-the-art workplace that set the tone for Downtown LA. Dramatic interior renovations, a reimagining of a signature plaza, and a complete repositioning of subterranean retail spaces worked together for a striking renewal.

The Downtown residential market has been on fire for years now, with the retail and restaurant scene smoldering in its wake. With its high-profile location atop Bunker Hill and impressive transformation, Wells Fargo Center was an obvious place to launch the Hacking the Highrise initiative. As part of the portfolio of Brookfield Properties, the largest property owner in Downtown LA, it is a perfect example of the core intent of the program -- the reimagining of office towers “inside, outside, and all around.” 

Downtown Los Angeles has reclaimed its status as the economic and cultural center of Southern California and is emerging as a premier destination for tech companies and talent. The DCBID launched its "Hacking the Highrise" initiative on June 21st with a showcase event at Brookfield Properties' Wells Fargo Center North Tower. Attendees from across the real estate industry mixed and mingled over food and drink and heard from an expert panel on how the property is being reinvented for a new era of city living and a new generation of tenants.
