DTLA Visitor Tips
New to Downtown, or just here for the weekend? A few local pointers to help you get around, settle in, and make the most of your time in DTLA.
Getting Here
Downtown sits at the center of LA's transit network. From LAX, expect roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive depending on traffic, or take the Metro. Union Station is the regional hub, connecting Metro Rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak.
Getting Around
DTLA is one of the most walkable parts of LA. Many neighborhoods, the Historic Core, Little Tokyo, the Arts District, South Park, and the Fashion District, sit within easy reach of each other. For longer hops, Metro Rail and rideshare are quick and easy. A TAP card or credit/debit card gets you on all Metro lines.
Explore by Neighborhood
Each pocket of Downtown has its own character. Grand Avenue and Bunker Hill for arts and culture, the Arts District for galleries and dining, Little Tokyo for food and history, South Park for sports and nightlife near the arena. Wander a little. The best finds are often a block off the main drag.
Parking
If you drive, plenty of garages and lots are available throughout Downtown. Rates vary, and many lots offer flat evening and weekend rates. Build in a few extra minutes on event days. For more info, visit our Parking in DTLA section
Need a Hand
Look for our Purple Patrol. They're out across the District to help with directions, recommendations, and anything you need. For safety and assistance, download our DTLA SAFE app or call our 24-hour line at (213) 624-2425.
Good to Know for Visitors
Tipping is customary in the US, generally 15 to 20 percent at restaurants. Cards are widely accepted nearly everywhere.
