First Fridays: From Feelings to Pheromones
#FirstFridays is back at NHM with a brand new season! Explore the Museum after hours with live performances, DJs, topical discussions, signature cocktails, food trucks, and more.
The season’s theme “From Feelings to Pheromones” explores the forces that shape the behaviors and sex lives of life forms, large and small. On April 5, behavioral ecologist Dr. Ambika Kamath and neuroscientist and moderator Dr. Yewande Pearse will discuss “Sex and Gender in Nature.” They’ll be breaking down the history, myths, and assumptions of gender in the natural world.
Catch a vibe with outdoor musical performances and DJ sets setting the mood throughout the evening. View the premiere of filmmaker Drew Denny's latest film, Second Nature (2024), which follows Dr. Joan Roughgarden and brave scientists from around the world debunking myths that females are "inferior" and being queer is "unnatural." Experience an indoor Sensory Lounge in the Grand Foyer, a captivating blend of visual art and soundscape curated by LAVA and Femme House, along with local vendors Herbalaria and Albert's Petite Sweets. Browse NHM collections displays, take an evening tour, and more.
Advance reservations recommended. Attendance is free for Members. Get tickets at nhm.org/firstfridays.
