THE POWER OF GROUP DRUMMING
The drum has the ability to bring diverse communities together and the drum circle cultivates a positive environment that provides an opportunity for people, from all walks of life, to connect in a shared creative experience. In a world where social isolation is a growing concern, group drumming sessions stand out as a beacon of community building. The drum doesn’t distinguish between racial, ethnic, religious, or economic differences. The inclusive nature of drum circles breaks down barriers, lifts the spirit of those who feel marginalized, and opens the eyes and ears of those who do not. Those participating form a supportive community, strengthening social bonds while building a sense of belonging. Through drumming and the power of rhythm, everyone is heard. The act of drumming creates a powerful energy, an awakening of understanding that lifts the spirits. It can induce deep relaxation, lower stress hormones in the blood, and bring a person’s attention to the present moment. It promotes the practice of mindfulness in a creative way, fostering mental well-being and positivity. For many, the drum circle becomes a sacred space, an experience that transcends verbal communication, where emotional expression is not just accepted but celebrated.

MAY IS "MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH"
Taking place during Mental Health Awareness Month, DFYL has planned this community experience with a very specific goal: to amplify the voices of the most vulnerable in our community and transform self-expression into action that positively impacts the daily lives of participants. DFYL partner organizations that provide mental health services will have informational tables set up at the event.
