Cinco de Mayo Family Day
LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, located in downtown LA, is hosting its Cinco de Mayo Family Day dedicated to discovering California’s connection to the Battle of Puebla through theatrical performances, music, hands-on workshops, tours around the permanent exhibition LA Starts Here!, participation by community organizations, and more. Food and beverages will be available for sale.
A theatrical performance will debunk some of the myths related to Cinco de Mayo, including that it is a Mexican holiday that was brought to the United States by Mexican immigrants in the early 20th century, or that it is a fake holiday invented by beer companies in the 1980s in order to sell beer.
The museum’s doors will open to visitors to explore its five current exhibitions.
Participating community organizations include California Department of Public Health, CWS, Kids Dental Place, and L.A. Vs. Hate.
