American Contemporary Ballet presents Balanchine's Concerto Barocco

WHEN GENIUSES COLLIDE
Bach and Balanchine: the hype is real.

There are works of art that every human being should experience: Michelangelo’s Pietà, Davinci's Mona Lisa, Mozart's Requiem. There is another to be added to that list, created less than 100 years ago: George Balanchine's Concerto Barocco.

In ‘Barocco,’ one finds two geniuses working across a span of more than 200 years. Balanchine introduced a pared-down, jazz-infused aesthetic that somehow perfectly complements Bach’s immortal Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, often described as his most sublime and transcendent work.

And when Los Angeles’ American Contemporary Ballet presents the ballet this June, it can be seen in a skyscraper, performed to live music – the airy notes and dancers floating above the city. It's hard to transcend the already transcendent, but this gets close.

The ballet is paired with the premiere of a new work by ACB director Lincoln Jones and inspired by jazz-infused music of the same era.
