White Light Grid Series: Untitled

Mary Corse (1964-1968)

Since the early 1960s, Mary Corse has created abstract, monochromatic paintings. In 1964, she completed a group of white-on-white, shaped canvases and began painting with glass microspheres in 1968. These tiny, perfect spheres of glass refract light and make for a luminous surface that is not attainable using pigment alone.
