Poet's Walk: Corporate Head

Terry Allen (1990)

Terry Allen's bronze sculpture of a businessman burying his head into the EY Plaza building taking aim at the values and ethics of the Reagan-Bush years. Though relatively small in size, it raises larger issues with its critique of corporate mentality and emphasis on profit at all costs.

This sculpture is a satirical commentary on the pressures and dehumanizing aspects of corporate culture. The sculpture depicts a life-size businessman with his head buried in the wall of a building, suggesting that individuals in corporate settings often lose their sense of self and individuality in pursuit of success. The accompanying plaque featuring a poem by Philip Levine further emphasizes this theme, highlighting the idea of sacrificing one's identity to conform to corporate expectations.
