UCLA Extension Class: The Four Basic Questions of Philosophy and Life

Introduction to the Four Basic Questions of Philosophy and Life

In this course we explore the four basic questions of philosophy and life.

About This Course

According to the ancient Greeks, philosophy means the love of wisdom. Philos meaning love and sophia meaning wisdom. We can say in present day English that philosophy is a journey undertaken by those who wish to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other, not to mention that so difficult quest, what started it all, the ultimate source of all this? In this course, we take in all that with the four basic questions of philosophy: Who am I really? What is reality? How do I act in the face of the world? What is the ultimate Source of all this, or in the vernacular, what is God?
