THE ART OF THE CROSSFADE Presented by J.PERIOD and Josh Kun
The Art of the Crossfade is a free, two-day multimedia experience created by acclaimed DJ/producer J.PERIOD and MacArthur Fellow Josh Kun that explores how music can bridge cultural, generational, and community divides. Presented during the United States' 250th anniversary year, the Los Angeles debut combines live DJ performance, storytelling, visuals, audience participation, and community dialogue, using the DJ crossfader as a metaphor for connection, creativity, and belonging.
The program includes a Musical Lecture (July 10), a Community Workshop (July 11) where participants are invited to share songs connected to their heritage and personal stories, and culminates with The Live Mixtape: Crossfade Edition (July 11), a live-recorded performance featuring D Smoke, Mumu Fresh, Fatlip (The Pharcyde), The Pocket Queen, Ben Williams, Tamuz, Deyra Barrera, Daniel Crawford, Kemo The Blaxican, The Neighborhood Orchestra, Faunoos, DJ Spider, and DJ Mal-Ski. The Los Angeles debut is presented free to the public at Grand Performances in downtown Los Angeles.
