The Art of Sashiko: Crafting Coasters with Tradition

Join JACCC for a hands-on Hitomezashi Sashiko workshop led by Sanae Suzuki. Experience the art of traditional Japanese embroidery as you learn to draw grids and stitch intricate Hitomezashi patterns to create two coasters using organic indigo-dyed fabric.

This workshop is designed for those who are comfortable with hand-sewing and running stitches or have taken Sanae’s Introductory Workshop. However, beginners eager to take on the challenge are also welcome.

Workshop Includes a Material Kit with:

Organic indigo-dyed cotton fabric (for two coasters)
Sashiko thread (unbleached white, 40m)
Sashiko needles (2-pack, sizes: 1 15/16" and 2 5/8")
White sewing chalk pencil
What to Bring:

Small graph ruler (example: 6-inch with 8ths)
Small sewing scissors
Optional: additional thread in different colors
