Step Pażernov is a Los Angeles-based composer and musician whose work focuses on transmuting experienced trauma into evocative and empowering musical expressions. Initially self taught, Pażernov studied composition at Berklee College of Music before receiving her MFAvin Music Composition from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2016. During this time, her first string quartet received a merit award from the Tribeca New Music Young Composer’s Competition as well as the TURNMusic Collegiate Composition Prize. Some of her career highlights include the recent release of her debut EP Entropy, performing with klezmer band Mostly Kosher, teaching in partnership with Skid Row nonprofit Urban Voices Project, and providing orchestration and music direction for composer Ames Bessada’s score of the Black
Mirror episode Joan is Awful. Pażernov, whose previous works are largely credited under the name “Stephanie Meyers” has adopted “Step Pażernov” as her artist name in homage to her ancestral lineage, queer identity, and inexplicable obsession with early 20th century Slavic composers.
