Our children's first digital footprints are made before they can walk—even before they are born. Then, in rapid succession come terabytes of baby pictures stored in the cloud, digital baby monitors with built-in artificial intelligence, and real-time updates from daycare. When school starts, there are cafeteria cards, bus passes, electronic health records and a school surveillance system that has eyes everywhere. Unwittingly, parents, teachers, and other trusted adults are compiling digital dossiers for children that could be available to everyone—friends, employers, law enforcement—forever. In this incisive book, Leah Plunkett examines the implications of “sharenthood”—adults' excessive digital sharing of children's data. She outlines the mistakes adults make with kids' private information, the risks that result, and the legal system that enables “sharenting.” Seating is limited; register early!

Leah Plunkett is a faculty associate with the Youth & Media team at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. She’s also an associate professor at University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and a mother of two. This book was selected as one of WIRED’s must-read books for fall 2019 and featured in The New Yorker.

Leah got her start in law teaching and writing as a Climenko Fellow at Harvard Law School. Before she became a teacher, she practiced as a legal aid lawyer with New Hampshire Legal Assistance. She founded the Youth Law Project there, which represents kids and teens in special education, school discipline, and related cases. Then she worked at the National Consumer Law Center, which gives us all a voice as we buy houses, shop for cars, and make other household investments.

Lori Getz (moderator) is an Instructional Technologist in Los Angeles. She has a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. She founded Cyber Education Consultants and began speaking to students, parents, and educators about Internet safety, security, and ethics. Her mission is simple -- to help bridge the gap between a young generation of digital natives and their parents and teachers. She has appeared on the "Dr. Phil Show," "Today," "Good Morning America," "HLN," “Dr. Drew,” and several other local news & radio programs and podcasts. She is the author of The Tech Savvy User's Guide to the Digital World, a workbook for tween and teens.
