Music from Spain, Brazil, and Argentina unfolds with a strong sense of rhythm, gesture, and place, moving between folkloric roots and modernist edge, where dance forms and lyrical writing sit side by side.

LACO’s principal winds take focus in Oscar Navarro’s Juego de Ladrones (Game of Thieves), a work full of quick shifts, character, and interplay. Principal Flute Benjamin Smolen follows with Piazzolla’s Tango Étude No. 3, capturing the tension and fluidity at the heart of the tango tradition.

LACO string quartet takes on Ginastera’s String Quartet No. 1, a work that draws on Argentine folk elements while pushing into a more driving, percussive sound world. The program also includes Tania León’s Alma and Villa-Lobos’ Improviso No. 7, each offering a distinct perspective on rhythm, color, and form across the Americas.
