OUT - Japanese Hikikomori x LGBTQ+ Thriller Film World Premiere
Join us for the world premiere of OUT, a new US-Japan dramatic thriller feature film!
Makoto, a sensitive non-binary Japanese-American, lives as a shut-in (hikikomori) in a rundown home in Tokyo with estranged brother Satoru. After living in total isolation for years, Makoto’s only contacts are with online friends, particularly ANNIE999, an aspiring actress who Makoto has secretly fallen in love with. But after ANNIE999 deletes her social media accounts amid duress, Makoto investigates her disappearance and discovers a closer personal connection than either has realized. Now, Makoto must confront the traumas of the past and fear of the unknown to rescue ANNIE999 – by going OUT.
This thrilling, dramatic, and heartfelt US-Japan co-production is the directorial debut of rising international talent Masashi Kawamata and features a diverse cast and crew of LGBTQIA+ creators and allies from ten countries.
OUT is the closing night film of the Los Angeles Independent Filmmakers Showcase at L.A. Live. Q&A with the filmmakers to follow the screening, plus giveaways! Tickets for other films in the festival are also available.
