Medieval Food Before "Medieval Food"

The Culinary Historians of Southern California present food historian Jim Chevallier at the Los Angeles Public Library's Central Library on Saturday, November 14, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Taper Auditorium. Chevallier will look beyond the thirteenth-century cookbooks usually used to define medieval food, drawing on archaeology, monastic rules, histories, supply lists, statutes, poems, and travelers' accounts to survey food under the Merovingian, Carolingian, and early Capetian dynasties. His books include A History of the Food of Paris, named a 2019 Outstanding Academic Title by Choice, and History of French Bread, Before the Baguette, a 2020 Gourmand World Cookbook Award winner. The library lists the English-language lecture for adults and asks visitors who need disability-related accommodations to request them at least five business days in advance. Stumblday is an independent local event guide and is not the organizer. Official details: https://www.lapl.org/events/medieval-food-medieval-food-culinary-historians-southern-california .
