March’s theme is Witches, Wizards, and Magical Powers. This season we focus on how nature & science influence the creation of our favorite imagined worlds. From dragons and witchcraft to superheroes and giant monsters, First Fridays 2023 is where the fans come out to celebrate the intersection of pop-culture fandom and the work and collections of NHM. Cosplay welcome!
Join the discussion with Jordu Schell, a leading artist of the fantasy art & sculpture field for nearly forty years as well as Dr. Stuart Sumida, a biologist & paleontologist who has consulted on over fifty films, as well as video games and theme park rides. Discussion moderated by neuroscientist and science communicator Dr. Yewande Pearse. Groove to an outdoor set by Zsela and KCRW’s DJ Francesca Harding. Say hello to our friends from Alf Museum’s Cosplay for Science Initiative and Golden Apple Comic and Art Foundation, tabling all night long.
