Kibo Nobori
The 4th annual Kibō Nobori festival is in celebration of the Japanese national holiday Children’s Day (‘Kodomo No Hi’ in Japanese) as well as AANHPI Heritage Month. Created by artist Faith-Ann Kiwa Young and hosted by Terasaki Budokan in Downtown Little Tokyo, Kibō Nobori means ‘hope flags’ in Japanese, and seeks to spread hope within the Los Angeles community through art, activities, culture, and entertainment.
Free with registration, and fun for all ages, Kibō Nobori features art, performances from traditional Taiko drumming to hip hop dance, activities, and an AANHPI marketplace with retail and food vendors curated by Filled Market.
This year’s event’s Title Sponsor is the Angel City Football Club will have a street team handing out swag and goodies. Kibō Nobori is in partnership with the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and Go Kizuna. Plus for the full month of May, Faith-Ann Young‘s colorful, large scale “Kibō Nobori” textile flag series, inspired by Japanese koi nobori traditionally hung on Children’s Day throughout Japan, will be on display in Terasaki Budokan’s plaza for all visitors to see and experience.
