Elephant In The Room: Small Talk, Big Issues |Taxidermy: Challenges of a Lost Art
Tackle thought-provoking, and sometimes controversial, topics in the museum world and elsewhere with Elephant in the Room: Small Talk, Big Issues, a new after-hours discussion series in NHM Commons.
This year’s theme pulls back the curtain on the artistry, science, and controversies surrounding the Museum’s own beloved 100-year-old diorama halls, providing a platform for dialogue and discovery. The inaugural series complements NHM’s latest exhibition, Reframing Dioramas: The Art of Preserving Wilderness, offering a fresh perspective on these iconic and historic displays.
Join us on March 13 for “Taxidermy: Challenges of a Lost Art,”, and explore the world of taxidermy with moderator, Neuroscientist, and Science Communicator Dr. Yewande Pearse along with and taxidermists, Allis Markham and Paloma Strong, from Prey Taxidermy, as well as and NHM’s renowned taxidermist Tim Bovard as they delve into the challenges, evolution, and ethical considerations of taxidermy and the ongoing balance of preserving history and the natural world.
Don’t miss this unique and eye-opening evening of art, science, and storytelling at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles!
Free with RSVP.
