Dance Camera West 2026 Festival Centerpiece Program
A program of short dance films from the renowned Dance Camera West dance film festival, including LA POPS UP, a groundbreaking project spearheaded by Hysterica Productions’ Kitty McNamee, and co-curated by Trudl Zipper Dance Institute Artistic Director Janie Taylor. Highlighting the extraordinary talent of SoCal’s most influential choreographers, LA POPS UP showcases the personal visions of Kathrine Helen Fisher, Tony Testa, Keean Johnson, Bret Easterling/Julia Eichen, Charlotte Griffin, Ian Eastwood, Devin Waxman, Maya Kell-Abrams, and Marisa Hamamoto.
Also on the program is the LA premiere of Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber’s feature dance film Waiting Places. The newest film from these dance luminaries is adapted from a live piece and explores the intersection of time, desire, and connection as five individuals inhabit a room, bound by the act of waiting. This presentation offers a chance to see work by these critically acclaimed artists whose work on stage and in film ranges from live works for companies like Paris Opera Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Ballet BC, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and upcoming films like Terrence Malick’s The Way of the Wind (2025), and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride (2026).
Q&As with filmmakers to follow.
