A one-night exhibition of textured paintings, RGB light, sculpture, DJ set by Tocaya, and immersive fortune-telling inside DTLA’s RSVP-only art speakeasy

Los Angeles, CA | This Saturday, May 9, 2026, Bu Tea Den presents Altitude Adjustments, a one-night exhibition by South Lake Tahoe-based artist Annie Walker, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Developed between summers in Yosemite’s backcountry and Walker’s permanent life in South Lake Tahoe, Altitude Adjustments is a body of work shaped by prolonged solitude in California’s High Sierra. The exhibition explores what happens when wilderness stops functioning as scenery and becomes something more intimate, invasive, and impossible to ignore. In Walker’s work, landscape is not a backdrop. It is a force that presses inward, collapsing the distance between environment and interior state.

The paintings are built through dense physical accumulation, with surfaces that read as memory, erosion, pressure, and endurance. Activated by RGB light, they shift between clarity and instability throughout the evening, echoing altered perception shaped by grief, solitude, and self-examination. Sculptures constructed from discarded studio materials extend this language into three dimensions, transforming remnants into forms of persistence and reinvention.

Altitude Adjustments is a record of being altered by place: broken open, reconfigured, and remade through endurance.

The exhibition will take place inside Bu Tea Den, a hidden RSVP-only immersive art lounge in DTLA. The venue blends intimate art programming, atmospheric projection, complimentary tea, and interactive fortune-telling through Paisley ID®, its permanent digital installation. Guests can consult the Den’s Automated Fortune-Telling Machines, receive a personalized printed fortune, and watch their generated energy portrait enter the projection Aquarium.

The evening also features a DJ set by Tocaya, whose sound will accompany the exhibition’s atmosphere of distortion, reflection, and environmental pressure.
