All-Brass Chamber Music
Fueled by the wave of Industrial Revolution-era advancements in instrumental technology, performance standards (particularly for brass musicians) rapidly improved during the late 1800s, prompting a brass-band heyday throughout the next century. In this program, LA Phil musicians highlight the brilliance of the brass-band movement by pairing folk-inspired works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Percy Grainger with Silvestre Revueltas’ rhythmic, Afro-Cuban frenzy Sensemayá, and three iterations of Joan Tower’s spirited tribute to “women who are adventurous and take risks.”
Experience big performances on a more intimate scale when musicians from the LA Phil perform chamber music in small ensembles. Come early and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine before the performance, starting at 6:30pm.
