Ronald Reagan State Building

This 16-story office tower was completed in 1991, and was the second state office building named for Ronald Reagan in Downtown Los Angeles.

During the fiscal crisis following the Stock Market collapse of 2008, the State of California decided it would sell 17 state buildings, including large office properties at 300 South Spring Street (Ronald Reagan State Office Building) and 320 West 4th Street (the former Broadway Department Store [1914], later known as the "Junipero Serra State Office Building" #2). The two Los Angeles state facilities had occupancy rates of 100% at a time when average Downtown Los Angeles office buildings were 12.4% full. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (born 1947) contracted with the real estate firm CB RIchard Ellis to sell the buildings, hoping to realize about $2 billion in revenue. According to a CB Richard Ellis spokesman in 2009: "...the state’s offering represents the largest for-sale portfolio of office buildings currently available in the nation." The sale of the two Los Angeles properties never occurred, as financial conditions improved in the state.

In 2009, the Reagan State Office Building #2 accommodated the local offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and the Departments of Insurance and General Services and the California Highway Patrol.

By 2020, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) occupied space in the Ronald Reagan State Building in Los Angeles, as did the State of California Court of Appeal, 2nd Appellate District, and the California Secretary of State's Los Angeles Office. --SOURCE: Pacific Coast Architecture Database
