4th Annual Community & Unity People’s Kite Festival

Clockshop and California State Parks are hosting the 4th Annual Community & Unity People’s Kite Festival on May 11, 2– 6pm, at Los Angeles State Historic Park, next to historic Chinatown, Los Angeles.

This year’s family-friendly cultural festival will celebrate multicultural kite traditions bringing together diverse communities in Los Angeles through the art of kites and a day of joyful connection in this important public green space. The all-ages community celebration is free and open to the public honoring the communities surrounding Los Angeles State Historic Park that fought for and steward this public park land, recognizing their resilience, cultural histories, and aspirations. It features kite flying, learning new flying techniques from Kite Masters, art-making workshops and for the first time a competition for best handmade kite and a flying competition.

Unique kite designs by this year’s commissioned artist, Yaeun Stevie Choi, creating three unique Korean kites to bring awareness to animal species native to Los Angeles whose continued existence is threatened by urban and industrial development such as the North American cougar, El Segundo butterfly, and the Least Bell’s vireo.

Clockshop encourages attendees to make their own kites or visit its website for suggestions on where to purchase eco-friendly kites ahead of the event. In an effort to limit plastic waste, a kite vendor will not be present at the event and instead, we will provide a very limited number of ready-to-assemble kites on a first-come, first-served basis.
